2nd Gen of a imac g3 (slot loading) had 10 GB hard drives
Were apps really …
Were apps really that small? *sarcasm*
take into account …
take into account the imac g3’s hard drive was only 4gb, a 6gb external drive that small was pretty good back then

ahem, 480 Mbps …
ahem, 480 Mbps means 480 Megabitspersecond which are 60 Mbyte/s. And Firewire is 400 Mbytes/s, Firewire 400 runs @ 3200 Mbps and Firewire 800 runs @ 6400 Mbps
Mbps = 1/8 Mbytes/s.
Get the point?

Right, my point was that it was released as a public standard that anyone can use. The “FireWire” name is an Apple trademark. If you use it on your product packaging, you have to pay Apple. You can use it without paying Apple as long as you don’t use the Trademark.
the IEEE 1394 …
the IEEE 1394 standard was made by Apple though! So it is actually called Firewire.
