Is an ibook a good knock around computer?

Just wondering because I want a small laptop that I can browse the web with and possibly do word processing tasks and there are many ibooks floating around that are cheap.
@samman it is a laptop from Apple. It came out before the macbook

Yes, an ibook would be an excellent knock around computer. It will do all the things you are requesting without a question. Since the ibook features the powerpc processor rather than the new intel processor it should be fairly easy to find one very cheap because apple has phased out that lineup of notebook.

Though, I would recommend getting one of the newer ibooks (04,05) because they featured some of the fastest processors of the series. By all means avoid the ibooks that sport the fruit color scheme on the case because they are slugs in the way of computing speed.

Yes it would be an excellent choice. And with a Mac you won't have to worry about viruses or spyware.

If you're referring to the Apple iBook (kid friendly laptops) introduced in 1999/2000, then the answer is: no. They use much older hardware and will be slow for any web surfing today.

Like the above poster(s), try getting a netbook instead (first link has a list of them).
